Anagnosi

Native Markdown reader and editor for macOS and iOS. Designed and built from scratch with a focus on speed and simplicity.

Background

Anagnosi started as an internal idea. One of us on the team wanted to read Markdown files on the computer and then seamlessly continue reading on a tablet or phone, on the couch or on the go. No existing app solved this in a smooth way, so we decided to build one ourselves.

It became our own side project and an opportunity to work with native development for Apple platforms.

Our Approach

Design and Concept

We wanted the app to feel like a natural part of the Apple ecosystem. Clean, minimalist, and fast. No unnecessary buttons or menus. Markdown files should be front and center, and the experience should be equally good whether you are sitting at your desk or lying on the couch with an iPad.

iCloud Sync

The core of the app is iCloud synchronization. Open a file on your Mac, and it is instantly available on your iPhone and iPad, without thinking about file transfers or cloud services. Edit on one device, save, and continue on another. Everything happens automatically in the background.

Native for Each Platform

We built Anagnosi as a native app for macOS and iOS. This means the app takes full advantage of each platform's strengths. Split View on Mac and iPad lets you see the Markdown source and the rendered text side by side. On iPhone, a dual view switches between editing and preview.

Key Features

  1. iCloud sync: Open and edit files seamlessly between Mac, iPad, and iPhone
  2. Split View: See Markdown source and rendered text side by side on Mac and iPad
  3. Tabs: Work with multiple files at the same time, just like in a browser
  4. Reader and editor: Not just for reading, but also for writing and editing Markdown
  5. Native experience: Built specifically for Apple platforms, not a web view in an app shell

The Result

Anagnosi became an app we use daily ourselves. What started as a solution to our own frustration became a polished product that shows what we can do with native development. The project gave us valuable experience with Swift, SwiftUI, and iCloud integration that we bring into client projects.
